TUM is creating a center for translational oncology research at the University Hospital Rechts der Isar that is unique in Germany. The center is located in the immediate vicinity of the University Hospital and supports the rapid implementation of new findings and technologies in patient care.
TranslaTUM’s interdisciplinary concept and modern infrastructure create the ideal conditions for achieving significant scientific and medical advances in the field of precision medicine. This will help TranslaTUM grow into a German oncological research center with international visibility.
The Center is located in close proximity to the university hospital, thus providing quick and easy access to patients for accelerated translational potential. The ultimate goal of this joint effort is to increase the chances of finding a cure for cancer patients.
TranslaTUM comprises approx. 5,600 square meters of research space and state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, accommodating around 16 working groups from different disciplines. The space is designed to foster hybrid laboratories that combine the requirements for molecular and cell biological, engineering, chemistry and physics research. Furthermore, the architecture of the building provides ample open communication areas, creating a friendly atmosphere that makes it as comfortable as possible to develop new ideas and synergistic collaborations while enjoying a coffee or a snack. The infrastructure of the core facilities will be supported by several items of major instrumentation funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). TranslaTUM is embedded in existing research and clinical structures for cancer research at the TUM School of Medicine, The Klinikum rechts der Isar (Roman Herzog Comprehensive Cancer Center, RH-CCC) and the Comprehensive Cancer Center Munich.
